Ode to Our Attic

Our attic like the rest of our house has gone through too many transformations. We were not even supposed to have one in the first place. While our home was under construction though, it took sooooo long for the roofing contractor to install the actual roof that I spent hours on top of our roofless house hating that contractor.  (I forgot to mention that was pregnant with Blue at that time. Maybe that explains why he has a temper?)) It gave H and I enough time though to re-think the option of building an attic. Turned out it could not only accommodate a room but a small bathroom as well. H and I decided to make the attic a TV room and guest room.

There were times when it served as just a storage room for the many times, we purged and decluttered. Raising a family is messy! We have added storage, repainted and re-positioned furniture.  Remember I told you we were downsizing? Our next home won't have an attic. In fact it will have less rooms. Waaah! So this post is dedicated to our attic which I will miss. The photos on this post are of its current state. Last year we had out of town guests three times and I hope they loved staying there. Hmmm.... what if I will ask everyone for sleepover soon, movie night et al. Naah, I bet the kids will just be staring at their phones and chatting with their friends. ROAR!

So it will be good-bye soon. Sniff!

Temple Run: Siem Reap

One of the highlights of 2013 for me, I have to say was the trip I took to Siem Reap with five of my high school buddies; two were my besties and the other three all good friends of mine as well.  This trip took shape in all spontaneity, no grand plans and no drama either. That mood carried itself over the four days we were together. I had the best time and these friends all the more closer and dearer to me.

Allow me to share photos of beautiful Siem Reap and the smile on my face as I work on this post.

We were supposed to capture the sunrise at Angkor Wat Good thing it was cloudy because my roomies and I were late. hehe!

See! They looked like they forgave us easily.

The architecture was just amazing....

The woman in the plum shirt is not my friend! Who's that?

Twilight inspired pose

Our second temple tour was at the Tomb Raiders temple. TA PROHM

Spring to Pottery Barn (2013)

I love it that a Pottery Barn store is just walking distance from my mother-in-law's place in the Bay Area.

Since I am always there on family vacation, stepping into a Pottery barn store is like meeting someone who totally gets me amidst the packing, unpacking, jet lag, homesickness, kids' whining, husband whining....Okay back to Pottery Barn....

What was up in Pottery Barn this spring? Look. look and see..... Enjoy!

Pretty, seaside and fiesta place settings!

Relaxing vignettes!

But I really could not afford most of the stuff there. So I just mentally "pinned' ideas..... Hee!

..... and make an in-store Wish List
Whut? I can. Can't I? Here it is!

This serving carousel which was the last one
and they refused to let me have it. =-((( SOB!

So adorable drinks dispensers!

 Shells!
Lovely but I am against snapping them from our beaches.
Wait, are these even real? I guess they are, right?

Too pretty pillows. But $50 each? C'mon!

That's it! Enough salivating. Let's go home, H!

H?

H???

I Just Met My Favorite Aquarium!

As frequent enough visitors to the Bay Area, should I be ashamed to admit that I just saw Monterey during our last trip this year?

Thanks to my sweet high school friend Gina, my little gang and I finally saw this quaint and pretty town. I fell in love with it right away and we all fell in love with Tita Gina right away too. Thank you again, Gina for sharing that day with us.

My teen kids of course wanted to see the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  In as much as I love aquariums more than zoos, more than the fish,  I completely got lost in the beautiful industrial structure that houses it. Ang ganda niya!

IT was deesigned by Esherick Homsey Dodge & Davis  to look like a sardine cannery which used to stand on the property. A cannery steam whistle is still blown at noon to commemorate it.

This explains the building's industrial design. The unpainted cement walls and brutalist touches provide a breathtaking contrast to the the ocean views outside and the colorful, underwater life and creatures highlighted inside. I felt I was in heaven, architecture heaven that is. plus the kids were busy with the kelp and the fish and the jelly fish...etc...

Monterey Bay Aquarium is my fave of all the aquariums I have visited. I would love to go back when get the chance.

The town of Monterrey itself is so laid back and quiet, a true respite.

Here are some outtakes from our visit to Monterey.....

Just like getting to know this beautiful place.....
