My First Step To A Wonderful Christmas 2013

Yep, you have read it right. I really mean Christmas this year. But, but...I know it is only the 5th of January.

Allow me to take you a few weeks back when Christmas last year 2012 began.  I remember going up our attic to choose which decors to use for the year and lo and behold, our decorations were a messy heap. Mind racing, eyeballs popping, major outburst itching to escape my throat, the ghosts er image our old house help flashed before my eyes. I saw her grunting her way through our decorations, tossing each and every one in a giant box like who cares? Who care if the glitters are ripped off or if the glass balls get scratched or the tin Christmas trees get squished and bent?

BUT, it was too late and futile actually.... though I still allowed myself a major outburst...Sorry I just had to. I refuse to allow it to happen again. So this year, I took matters into my own hands again.....

I will pack away the decors myself.......I documented each step to share and hope you guys can learn a thing or two....

1.
Remove each Christmas tree trim one at a time and clean them with a microfiber cloth.

2.
Have boxes, trays or bins ready and sort them out by design, color or kind. This year I used empty wine boxes.

3.
Set aside broken decors and fix them before packing them away,

4.
It is always best to preserve and use the original packaging of your decors. They are best protected this way.

5.
Christmas lights though may be excluded from step 4 as it is tricky to return them in their original boxes. First roll them in a circle and tie a spot with a ribbon. Store them in disposable plastic boxes like this.

6.
Zip lock bags are also great for decors that need to be packed individually.

7.
My one favorite tip in organizing anything is LABELING! Label each of container and mark them if there are several of one decor.

8.
Put your containers in big boxes. Not too big as when filled these may get too heavy to carry. What I did was I put all the Christmas tree trims together, faux flowers together. etc.

9.
Scribble the contents of each box for easy identification come next Christmas time

10.
For big items wrap them in Manila paper or big brown paper bags and place them in a an open bin or crate.

Now, everything is ready to be hauled up to the attic....Until the next time the sleigh bells ring again....

Are you ready to say good-bye to Christmas? Then get your stuff ready

microfiber cloth
scissors
masking tape
black Sharpie pen
zip lock bags
re-used disposable boxes,
tin biscuit boxes or anything you can re-use.

Good luck!

Christmas

Christmas is coming. But unlike other years, this time Christmas, I believe is just gonna slip in quietly.
Our country has been through typhoon after typhoon. A lot of our countrymen are living in flooded homes and villages. People are hungry and getting sick.
But we, Filipinos are not to even think of giving up or skipping this holiday. The true meaning and reason for Christmas is the One thing that sees each of us through.
I am still actually looking forward to it because without fail, it never ends up less than special. Hard times or not.

.... and I know already what the soundtrack of this Christmas is gonna be...I can't wait.

     God bless us all!

Oh, Our Christmas Tree '08

Finally got the tree up!

Many thanks to my son, Blue who is my assistant decorator at home. He is the one who tells the helps when to bring out the Halloween, Christmas and Easter decorations. He is also the one who demands that I re-arrange the furniture since it has been a certain way for a long time.
This year, we went for aqua and green for our Christmas decors. It is our first time to move away from red and green. Our tree is seven years old and about to take a bow so are some of the decors. So Christmas decorating is somethings old, somethings new, somethings green and somethings blue, aqua...I so am loving these retro teddy bears which I bought for a song, no a stanza in Divisoria. Do you remember these teddy bears? I believe during my childhood they came in red, electric blue, yellow... This is adorably kelly green!

My family and I are still getting used to our new Christmas colors but we are definitely liking it. Forty days to go! I joyfully wait.....

Silent Night, Holy Night

My kids have been working on the piece, "Silent Night' on the piano and violin since October and I have been feeling a lot like Christmas ever since. Christmas is my favorite time of the year next to hold your breath, Valentine's Day. No, not the cheesy kind of Valentine. My idea of a Valentine will always be that of my Mom. For many years of my young life, she was and still is my Valentine..... But, wait I was writing about Christmas..... So little by little i a getting the house ready for it. To be honest this year has taken my family on a roller coaster ride and I am dying to celebrate Christmas because I want to give thanks for all the love and guidance I received from Heaven......

So I begin with color, it's spring bud and teal---in other words yellow green and aqua as inspired by Amy Butler's latest fabric collection and her house too which I soooo loooove. Thus, decorating for Christmas 2008 begins with color and I'm loving it already......

The Happiest Season of All

And it is not even over yet....
It has been a most pleasant Christmas season. We still have the New Year's to look forward to. I just realized this could be one of our best Christmases ever. Why? It is because my children are still children. They are really the ones going ga-ga over Christmas. Most of what my husband and I do is for them to truly enjoy and understand the gifts the Season brings. I can't help but wonder, what would Christmas be like with them a bit older.

My being on Facebook and being an avid 'photo album poster' on the site has made me feel even more blessed. I do it because I want to highlight the many beautiful people, places and events in my life. Through the months I have been doing it, it has been almost therapeutic for me. It help me to be more grateful for everything, even the simplest of everyday things.

This Christmas season is of course - no exception. It has been a parade of blessings all the way; from seeing old friends and new, family, my children's happy/ ecstatic faces, decorating the house for the Holidays, wrapping presents, learning new recipes, last-minute shopping with my Mom, the big laugh when my cousin Nokky took off his shirt, wore a Santa hat and walked cat walk style during our clan Christmas party. Ha, ha! It has been a wonderful Season... and it is not even over yet....

Beginning to Look a lot Like.....

Just a day ago, I was thinking that I was not feeling so Christmasy this year. Anyway, my husband, Mr. BB and I began to do a little Christmas shopping yesterday and I guess it got me into the Christmas spirit...a bit. I am not saying this in a negative way. I think since I am really busy with work and have lots to finish before Christmas, I am not completely free to just let go and enjoy the season as much as I want to.
But my kids are already giddy over their possible loots and I am not so giddy over what they are asking from Santa. My husband, Mr. BB and I have already reserved two cockatiels from this sweet girl, Melly Wong who breeds them to give to the kids. But the gifts they are asking from Santa are expensive. So I mailed their letters to Santa the other day. I told them that Santa appeared on CNN and was complaining that some kids are asking for very expensive gifts this year; tooo expensive that he might not have enough a budget to make toys for other kids. Yeah right! Of course my daughter Yellow believed me at once and my son Blue DID NOT. Anyway, after so much debate; Santa never appears on TV, Santa never runs out of budget they decided to take action. They began calling their other suppliers; my parents and brother... AND they sealed their deals! Ha. ha! Smart resourceful kids of mine, smart mommy me.
So, despite of my deadlines and work load during this holiday season, I have already saved a few thousand of pesos. Yey! I can buy the Fino bag I have always wanted to buy! JOKE! Hubby, Mr BB will buy that.
Okay, I guess I am already feeling a lot like Christmas!
